A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct. This every sister of the Bene Gesserit knows. To begin your study of the life of Maud'Dib, then, take care that you first place him in his time: born in the 57th year of the Padishah Emperor, Shaddam IV. And take the most special care that you locate Maud'Dib in his place: the planet Arrakis. Do not be deceived by the fact that he was born on Caladan and lived his first fifteen years there. Arrakis, the planet known as Dune, is forever his place.

When I stopped working earlier this year someone pointed me to the book Refire! Don't Retire: Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life by Ken Blanchard and Morton Shaevitz. While Blanchard's style is not my favorite I can't deny that the ideas he conveys are worth consideration. The gist is that we need to be as intentional about life in retirement as we have been as we built a career and life getting to where we are. I may capture some more thoughts about the book here later. For now I want to get this new site published so my online presence isn't down for too long.
